Episode 35: Decolonizing Kindness
What does it mean to be kind?
In today’s episode, we’re going to explore that question, its importance, some of the myths surrounding it and see if we can’t bring a little more of this into our lives on a daily basis. As we will hear, kindness is essential on the journey of being a change-maker, because it gives us incredible power to take off our colonial coats and create change every day.
What’s in this episode for you:
Why kindness matters
The true definition of kindness - it’s not what I thought
Signs that you may be exhibiting niceness
Where kindness must start and ways to begin now
Tools for change:
I know you’re full of kindness for others, but what about you?
Today, find ways to be kind to yourself. How can you be friendly, generous and considerate? I.e. loving, giving back more than is given away, and thoughtful in your approach to yourself?
Post-episode reflections: After recording this episode I looked into the mirror and told myself “I love you.” Whoa! It was a tear-dropping moment. We all need that kind of love and we can give it to ourselves in 5 seconds. Give it a try!
Poem: (No author)
Be kind to the wishers, who haven’t got wishes;
Be kind to the fishers, who haven’t got fishes;
Be kind to the beginners, who haven’t got ends;
Be kind to the strangers, who haven’t got friends;
Be kind to the walkers, who haven’t got a shoe;
Be kind to the talkers, who haven’t a clue;
Be kind to the outsiders, and insiders too;
Be kind to the kind, kept confined to the zoo;
Be kind in your mind, and in all that you do;
And you’ll find, that mankind, can be kind to you too.
